The American Embassy School, New Delhi, is an independent, coeducational day school offering an educational program from Early Childhood (EC4) through grade 12. Currently, more than 50 nationalities are enrolled. The criteria utilized for acceptance is that the AES Administration must be satisfied that: 1) the student has a successful history of academic performance and appropriate personal conduct; 2) any special needs of the student, including physical and/or learning disabilities, and development of English-language skills can be met by AES; and 3) the student will be eligible to graduate before his or her twentieth birthday. In the case of full capacity and the existence of any wait pools, US passport holders who meet the AES admissions criteria will by-pass the wait pools and be given a seat. The school year comprises two semesters: early August to mid-December and early-January to end-of-May.

Organization: The School is governed by a 7-member Board of Governors, elected for 2-year terms by the American Embassy School Association of New Delhi, the sponsor of the School.  Membership in the Association is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the School. Members also include teachers.

Curriculum: The curriculum is that of U.S. general academic, college-preparatory public schools. The School's testing program includes the College Board and American College Testing tests. Instruction is in English. French and Spanish are taught as foreign languages. English-as-a-Second-Language is offered for non-English-speaking students. The School also offers the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs. Most of the graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States and other countries. The School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Faculty: In the 2011-2012 school year, there are 160 full-time and 17 part-time faculty members.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, enrollment was 1,423 (PK-grade 5: 697; grades 6-8: 320; and grades 9-12: 406).

Facilities: The School is housed in modern well-equipped buildings, comparable to those of good U.S. public schools, in which libraries, a swimming pool, a physical education center, and a performing arts center are included.

Finances: In the 2011-2012 school year, 93.47% of the School's income derives from regular day school tuition and application fees. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK-4: $9,000; Kdg.-grade 5: $17,330; grades 6-8: $18,670; and grades 9-12: $19,780. These fees are payable in U.S. dollars. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
